Picture borrowed from Stockholm-Streetstyle.com shows another great example of how the Manolo Blahnik Hangisi shoe should be worn. I just love this red lace skirt and the Charlotte Olympia clear box clutch.

A few good things found at the Jimmy Choo showroom. The main collection arrives in June/July, and there will be a lot of ankle boots and of course a decent amount of glitter. I love this biker bag in supple taupe leather. Yum yum.
Another red-coat-wearing-pic of me in the Jimmy Choo showroom entrance on Via Manzoni. Next time I’m there will be in May to see the pre-spring collection. Ah, Milan in May will be wonderful I bet.
Someone recently celebrated a birthday putting him in the middle of his teenage years. Don’t worry. You won’t have to deal with hormones, wild parties, or strangely dyed hair. We’re talking about Jimmy Choo shoes. Although the celebrated shoe designer has been around for more than a quarter century, the company with his name on it didn’t exist until the mid-1990s. In 1996, Tamara Mellon, a fashion accessories editor for British Vogue, saw the potential in Jimmy Choo shoes reaching a larger market. She believed that higher end accessories, like designer shoes, could tap into a market of fashionistas and fashion-conscience professionals who wanted to stand out.
She was right. After approaching the designer and securing funding from her entrepreneur father, Tamara Mellon and Jimmy Choo started the Jimmy Choo shoe company. Big names likes Saks Fifth Avenue and Harrods quickly called and today, after several partnerships and mergers, Jimmy Choo is one of the most celebrated and largest higher-end designer shoe and accessories companies in the world. Jimmy Choo LTD. is now 15 years old and has stores all over the world including London, Hong Kong, New York, Boston, and Milan. In total, there are 39 stores. Not bad for a company that isn’t old enough to drink yet.
What do people like about Jimmy Choo shoes? Check out the latest fashion magazines, and it won’t be hard to see. Some of the most powerful women in the world choose Jimmy Choo shoes because of the statement they make. They stand out and immediately take center stage. A coffee table book Jimmy Choo XV was recently published to coincide with the 15th anniversary, and it showcases some of the best stilettos and flatwear that the prolific designer has produced. If you’re into fashion, you won’t want to miss it. Happy Birthday, Jimmy Choo and here’s to many more.
I had another purchase appointment at the Giuseppe Zanotti showroom in Milan, and I absolutely love this old Napoleon building with it’s many frescos and chandeliers. The fall/winter season 2012 from Mr. Zanotti will be black, black and black with plenty of extreme platforms and cool ankle boots. I also could not resist ordering the wedge sneaker in grey suede. Yum. I’ll in Milan again in about a weeks time to see the main collection, which I here will have a focus on high heeled boots and lots of fur. Exciting!
In literature, there is the author. This is the person who controls the characters in a story and keeps the plot moving in an interesting and satisfying direction. The life of the author is a rather secluded one. It’s one that involves a person sitting in front of a computer or typewriter with only the whisper of a vision in his or her head. However, whatever jumps out of the mind can eventually be art.
In film, there is the auteur. Derived from the French word for author, auteur theory suggests that the director is the primary visionary and is responsible for all aspects of the film. It’s the voice and style of the director that will ultimately shine. Francois Truffaut popularized the phrase in the 1950s and directors like Wes Anderson, Woody Allen, and Paul Thomas Anderson continue to perpetuate this tradition today.
In shoes, there is Manolo Blahnik. When you put on a pair of Manolos, it is an experience because Blahnik is responsible for every one of the thousands of designs that come out under his brand. His jobs and studies have taken him all over the world and have helped him develop the style and taste that he puts into each shoe. He works alone without any assistants or apprentices and creates the sketch and wooden mold of all of his designs. That’s why a Manolo is unlike anything else.
Louboutin is 20 years old. That’s right, the French designer Christian Louboutin, with the help of two friends, started his shoe boutique in 1991 with Princess Caroline of Monaco being his first customer. Over the years, many fashionistas, celebrities, and fashion-conscious professionals have come to Louboutin for his signature red-lacquered sole, and the Louboutin name has been synonymous with excellence and cutting-edge design. Now as Louboutin celebrates its 20th birthday, news is coming out of a new line.
According to Marie Claire, Christian Louboutin will be releasing a new 26 piece shoe and bag collection, commemorating the different designs over the years of the celebrated shoe and accessories designer. In all, there will be 20 shoes and 6 bags in the collection that features brightly colored pumps (of course), mesh knee-high boots, crystal-covered shoulder bags, and many others. Those who are familiar with Louboutin’s work will grow nostalgic and those new will discover what so many others already know about the genius of Louboutin.
You can check out a sneak preview of the Louboutin 20th anniversary line on its Facebook page, but if you can’t wait for that, you can always check out our Christian Louboutin online shop. I found this picture giving an example of how the Manolo Blahnik Hangisi pump can be worn without a wedding dress (which I must say is so much more interesting). Good job, Olivia Palermo for putting together this outfit and showing us that these Manolos are made for walking, not wedding.
